SUMMARY:BV EdHub Middle School STEM Workshops
DESCRIPTION:Come celebrate MA STEM Week at the Blackstone Valley EdHub! This year marks the third annual Mass STEM Week\, spearheaded by the Executive Office of Education and the STEM Advisory Council. The week’s goal is to boost the interest\, awareness and ability for all learners to envision\nthemselves in a STEM career and enhance instruction happening in our classrooms. While this is certainly a different year in how students are participating\, the BVEdHub will hold small workshops with proper COVID-19 protocols in place during the week of Oct. 19-23. Workshops are limited to 10 students per day with a fee of $25 per student. \nSchedule is:\nMon\, 10/19\, 3-5pm\nTues\, 10/20\, 3-5pm\nWed\, 10/21\, 3-5pm\nThurs\, 10/22\, 3-5pm\nFri\, 10/23\, 3-5pm

DESCRIPTION:The Blackstone Valley Chamber of Commerce introduces: BVCC Women’s Success Network \nOur vision Success for Every Woman        \nMission The Blackstone Valley Chamber of Commerce Women’s Success Network unites women to achieve their vision of success by creating a community of support and inspiration in their personal and professional lives. \nObjectives \n\nTo encourage women to come together in the spirit of collaboration\, cooperation\, and commitment to excellence and growth.\nTo pursue growth and learning by sharing experiences\, challenges\, and wisdom. \nTo facilitate networking opportunities by meeting clients\, colleagues and friends. \nTo work with the Chamber of Commerce to contribute to Blackstone Valley communities.\nTo have fun.\n\n  \nOn June 6th\, we are welcoming Representative Hannah Kane to speak about something that can motivate all of us: \nMaking the choice to stop supporting others and take the leap to run for office.\nA little bit about Representative Kane: \n \nHannah Kane serves as the State Representative for the 11th Worcester District\, representing the towns of Shrewsbury and Westborough\, Precincts 4 and 5. Hannah was re-elected to serve for a third term in November 2018 and sworn into office as a member of the 191st Biennium session of the Great and General Court on January 2\, 2019. \nHannah graduated from Boston University’s School of Management in 1993. Hannah has significant experience in both the public and private sectors\, beginning her career working as a Product Analyst at Unum Insurance Company. She was then recruited by Lt. Governor Paul Cellucci to the Weld/Cellucci Administration on the redevelopment of the former 4\,400 acre Fort Devens Army Base and on the merger of two quasi-public state agencies into the economic development authority MassDevelopment as Director of Marketing and Product Development. Hannah helped generate over a billion dollars in economic development across the Commonwealth. Hannah later returned to the private sector as Vice President of Marketing Services for a consulting firm\, developing and implementing business growth and marketing strategies for her clients. Hannah most recently co-owned and was managing partner of Beaton Kane Construction. \nHannah is deeply committed to public service in the community. She is currently: \n\nan elected Town Meeting Member for 16 years\nan appointed member of the Shrewsbury Finance Committee\nPresident of the Shrewsbury Public Schools Foundation\na member of the Shrewsbury Coalition for Addiction Prevention and Education\na Trustee for the Seven Hills Foundation\na Board and Executive Committee Member for Andover Newton Seminary at Yale Divinity School\nthe Host of a charity golf tournament benefitting SYFS\, St. Anne’s Human Services and Westborough Food Pantry\nan Advisory Board Member of the 495/MetroWest Partnership\na member of the Central MA Opioid Task Force\na Worcester County Reserve Deputy Sheriff\n\nShe has also previously been: \n\nthe President of the Shrewsbury Development Corporation\n​a member of the Floral\, Oak & Sherwood Middle Schools Councils\na Board Member for Shrewsbury Youth and Family Services (SYFS) Inc.\nthe President of Floral Street School PTO\non the Shrewsbury Youth and Family Services Resource Development Committee\na Shrewsbury Oil Assistance Relief: “Let Your Spirit SOAR”  Fundraiser Host\non the Shrewsbury Public Schools Coordinating Council\, Superintendent Screening Committee and Foundation for Children’s Books Vice-President\n\nOn Beacon Hill\, Hannah serves as: \n\nMember\, Joint Committee on Ways and Means\nRanking Minority House Member\, Joint Committee on Public Health\nRanking Minority House Member\, Joint Committee on Marijuana Policy\nState Director for the National Women in Government Foundation\, where she is a Member of the Mental Health and Substance Use Task Force\nBoard of Directors Member of the Massachusetts Caucus of Women Legislators\n\n​Hannah is Minority Leader Bradley H. Jones’ Designee on the Massachusetts Food Policy Council; the Special Commission on Local and Regional Public Health; the Regional Transit Authority Task Force; and a legislative commission studying the impact of healthcare inequality in Massachusetts. \nHannah was the recipient of Shrewsbury Youth and Family Services\, Inc.’s 2018 Harry S. Cutting\, Jr. Award for community service and the 2011 Shrewsbury Education Foundation’s Community Award For Service. She was the first member of the Massachusetts’ Legislature honored in 2018 as a Service Hero by Project 351\, an organization that promotes year-long service by an 8th grade Ambassadors from each of the Commonwealth’s 351 cities and towns. In 2016\, Hannah received the Worcester County Food Bank (WCFB) Harvester Award in recognition of her partnership with the WCFB to help feed hungry people today\, while working to create hunger-free communities of tomorrow\, and in April 2017\, Hannah received the American Nursing Association of Massachusetts Friend of Nursing Award for her work on marijuana policy. Hannah accepted the 2018 Massachusetts Parks and Recreation Association Legislator of the Year Award in March in recognition of her work to support parks and recreation in her district and the Commonwealth. Hannah and her husband\, Jim\, have lived in Shrewsbury for 21 years and have three children\, Madison\, Caitlin and Patrick\, in the Shrewsbury Public Schools. \n  \n
