Blackstone Valley Tech Superintendent-Director Dr. Michael Fitzpatrick (center) recently recognized Alma Karina Lopez (left) and Robert Jordan (right) for being Valley Tech’s recipients of the Massachusetts Association of School Superintendents Award of Academic Excellence.
UPTON – Throughout their four years at Blackstone Valley Regional Vocational Technical High School, Alma Karina Lopez and Robert Jordan dedicated their efforts toward future success. These two outstanding students were named this year’s Blackstone Valley Tech recipients of the Massachusetts Association of School Superintendents Award of Academic Excellence.
These exceptional students have distinguished themselves in the pursuit of academic excellence during their high school careers. Their accomplishments and high standing are duly recognized by the Blackstone Valley Vocational Regional District School Committee, Superintendent-Director Dr. Michael Fitzpatrick, Assistant Superintendent-Director and Principal Christopher Cummings and the Worcester County Superintendents’ Association.
“On behalf of the school committee we thank you for your contributions and congratulate you on your achievements,” School Committee chairman Michael Peterson said. “We also take a moment to acknowledge your family and all of those who have supported you in all of your endeavors.”
Ms. Lopez, a Milford resident, and Mr. Jordan, an Uxbridge resident, distinguished themselves through their high levels of academic achievement, and numerous extra-curricular activities.
Both students study Business Technology at Valley Tech. Ms. Lopez is a member of the James S. Mullaney Chapter of the National Honor Society and has participated in the Model UN, and Humanities Scholars programs at the school. She also works at Carlyle House in Framingham as part of her co-op program through Blackstone Valley Tech. She is very active in her church community, the Ekklesia New Covenant in Holliston, where she sings in the chorus. She is currently awaiting word of acceptance from several colleges. Mr. Jordan is the president of the Model UN, treasurer of Valley Tech’s chapter of SkillsUSA, and a member of the school’s DECA program. He has also participated in the Humanities Scholars program. Mr. Jordan plans to study history in college with a minor in business. He has been accepted to Bridgewater State University and Bryant University and is finalizing his selection as of this date.
“We are proud of every student at Valley Tech, but this annual recognition allows the opportunity to honor two special students,” Dr. Fitzpatrick said. “We are most fortunate to interact with students such as Alma and Robert. Their skills represent exactly what employers seek to compete globally.”
The two students will graduate from Valley Tech in May.
